We had to whip into Mykonos Ormos South Bay for a quick Skype chat…we had to drop 100m of chain to stop dragging out the harbour between the mega-yachts. The MY Rockstar was not so lucky…they dragged into a mooring buoy and became entangled. On the bright side…fitting of the boat’s name – someone pulled out a guitar and entertained the guests for an hour while the divers untangled their anchor.
Cayleigh and Tom discuss the finer points of diving off the stern of Coral…
The wind is still howling in the Aegean – Force 7 locally Gale Force is the forecast. Carolyn is looking at the map and trying to decide where can we go in these conditions!
We worked our way upwind again to the main port of Serifos. The wind is back up near Beaufort 6 with gusts to 7 (30 knots) and we have a nice spot on the lee side of the boat quay. The picture shows Coral in the foreground and the Hora way up the hill!
We were running low on supplies for the main course for dinner so the kids (Cayleigh, Meghan, Lucy and Tom) are dispatched in the dinghy to the small Vathy on Sifnos to find some additional kebabs to add to the other fixings on board!
I cannot get that jingle out of my head after 25 years – the one for Blue Star beer – the Pride of Newfoundland. Well, the Blue Star Ferries took center stage in Naxos for a few days as we bid farewell to the Hemphill-Green clan and welcomed the Smith-Backhouses!
We had a fast ride from Patmos to Amorgos – but we went through the washing machine from the end of Amorgos until we entered the main port. The backwash of the waves from the last few weeks of northerly winds made for some serious rock and roll for the last hour. The town wharf was very protected – and a Greek warship ducked under the headland (probably to avoid the swell) for the night.
After two weeks of upwind bashing from Marmaris to Bodrum and Kos to Arki – the Hemphills enjoyed all the hard work to windward (north) by the Rectors and the Weiders. Hempy is enjoying a quick downwind run from Patmos main harbour to Groika mooring field on the SE side of Patmos!
